Role of the ICFR

The Institute for Commercial Forestry Research (ICFR) is an internationally known and respected forestry research centre of excellence.

It is fully autonomous and is funded by the South African Forest Industry.

ICFR Research

Research at the ICFR is focused on developing technology and expertise in growing trees sustainably, profitably and responsibly, to benefit all stakeholders in plantation forestry in South Africa. Research is conducted through three multidisciplinary programmes:

The ICFR facilitates a number of collaborative research initiatives in partnership with the South African Forestry Industry, the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and other organisations.
