Qualifications

  • PhD (Botany) - University of Natal

Expertise

  • Vegetation management research for all commercially grown species in South Africa
  • Coppice management of eucalypts
  • Killing of eucalyptus stumps
  • Eucalypt and pine re-establishment

Research Interests

  • To reduce the current levels of forest vegetation management without compromising costs, productivity or sustainability, through a combination of reduced herbicide use and improved cultural weed control techniques.
  • To develop a predictive weed control tool that will allow for the timeous management of competitive vegetation during the establishment of commercially planted species.
  • To develop coppice management standards that will be applicable to all Eucalyptus species grown in South Africa.
  • Improved understanding of the development of intra-specific competition as a function of silviculture.
  • The conversion of results obtained from research into technology that can successfully be applied by foresters.
  • The development of silvicultural guidelines for multiple timber use by emerging growers.
  • Helping others to realize their potential.
